Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Food Safety Index
  • The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India recently launched a food safety index of the year 2019-20. The states of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra have topped the ranking.

Govt approves lifting ban on the export of anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine: Sadanand Gowda

  • Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers D V Sadanand Gowda has said that the Department of Pharmaceuticals has approved the lifting of the ban on the export of anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine API as well as its formulations.
  • In a tweet, Mr. Gowda said that manufacturers except for Special Economic Zone and Export Oriented Units have to supply 20 percent production in the domestic market. He said, Directorate General of Foreign Trade- DGFT has been asked to issue a formal notification in this regard.

To implement Jal Jeevan Mission during 2020-21: Centre approves Rs.1,280 crore for Madhya Pradesh 

  • Govt of India approved the Annual Action Plan of Madhya Pradesh for 2020-21. The approval was decided at the National Committee chaired by Secretary, Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti.
  • The government of India approved Rs.1,280 crore for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in the State in 2020-21. The amount of Rs.244.95 crore and this year’s Central allocation and matching State share, Rs.3,093 crore will be available with the State 2020.
Jal Jeevan Mission Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is implemented by the Ministry of Jal Shakti in partnership with States. JJM aims to provide adequate drinking water of prescribed quality on a regular and long-term basis to every rural household of the country by 2024.  JJM focusses on service delivery, not on infrastructure creation. The Mission was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 Independence Day speech.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a discussion with His Excellency Benjamin Netanyahu, PM of Israel over the telephone. The leaders affirmed the partnership b between India and Israel.
  • PM Modi and His Excellency Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the potential areas where the countries could expand their cooperation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, including research and development efforts in the fields of vaccines, therapeutics, & diagnostics.

IIT-BHU researchers develop face mask to annihilate pathogenic microorganisms

  • Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-BHU) have developed an anti-microbial five-layered face mask. The face mask was aimed to address a few issues to combat novel coronavirus.
  • This newly designed face mask can annihilate pathogenic microorganisms that are stuck to its outer surface. It will also limit the spread of secondary infections.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman: PSBs disburse Rs 12,200 Cr to states, UTs so far

  • FM Nirmala Sitharaman today said, the Public Sector Banks have disbursed 12,200 crore rupees to the States and Union Territories so far.
  • She also said PSBs have sanctioned loans worth 24 thousand 260 crore rupees under the 100 percent Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme including the disbursed amount.

  • Govt of India has allocated Rs 4,000 CRS under the Per Drop More Crop component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana for the year 2020-2021.
  • The Per Drop More Crop of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana focuses on water use efficiency through a sprinkler and drip irrigation. It also aims at reducing fertilizer use, labor expenses, and input costs.
