Union HRD minister launched Fit Hai to Hit Hai India for school children

  • Union Minister of Human Resource Development Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju launched the “Fit Hai To Hit Hai India” program under the Fit India campaign. The Fit India Talks sessions are being organized in association with the Sports Authority of India and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
  • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that it would launch a new series of fitness sessions for school going children in the Fit India Active Day program under this campaign.

  • President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated Dhamma Chakra Day 2020 celebrations on 4th July 2020. The day is celebrated to mark Buddha’s First Sermon to his first 5 ascetic disciples at the Deer Park, Rsipatana in the present-day Sarnath near Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Dhamma Chakra Day is celebrated by Buddhists across the world as the day of Dharma Chakra Parvattana or “Turning of the Wheel of Dharma”. It is celebrated by the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture.
Dhamma Chakra Day Dhamma Chakra day is the second most sacred day for Buddhists after the Buddha Poornima or Vesak. It is known as Asanha Bucha in Thailand and Esala Poya in Sri Lanka.

  • As per the 2020-21 World Bank’s Country Classification based on Income level, Nepal’s economy has moved to a higher category to become a Lower-middle Income economy while Sri Lanka’s economy has moved to a lower category to become a Lower-middle Income economy.


NLC and Coal India to form JVC for Developing Solar and Thermal Power Assets

  • A Navratna Company of Govt of India – NLC India Limited has signed an agreement with a Maharatna Company- Coal India Limited to form a Joint Venture Company (JVC) for developing Solar and Thermal power assets.
  • In the Joint Venture Company, both NLC and Coal India will have equal 50:50 equity. This was informed on 3rd July 2020 by NLC India. Solar and Thermal power assets of 5000 megawatts (5 GW) will be developed by the joint venture company. The Joint Venture Company will be set up under the Ministry of Coal.

  • NEW DELHI: The Lodha Committee, while reworking the Constitution of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), had clearly mentioned that conflict of interest is an area that needs to be fought hard for better administration of the gentleman’s game.
  • And that has seen quite a few former cricketers, including current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, having to relinquish multiple posts. And now, current India skipper Virat Kohli’s position has been questioned by Sanjeev Gupta in a mail to Ethics officer DK Jain.

Odisha: GST collection in June at 2,693.75 cr, Q1 mop up dips 35% due to lockdown

  • The goods and services tax (GST) collection in Odisha has fallen by 7.86 per cent year- on-year to Rs 2,693.75 crore in June, amid slowdown in the economy due to the coronavirus crisis, an official said on Sunday.
  • The GST revenue was 2,923.47 crore in the year-ago month.

Finmin may review capital requirement of PSU banks after second quarter

  • The finance ministry may assess the capital requirement of public sector banks after the September quarter as there would be greater clarity about a spike in bad loans by that time, sources said.
  • There is widespread fear that non-performing assets (NPAs) of the banks will witness a surge due to the economic slowdown triggered by the COVID-19 outbreak and resultant lockdowns.


IED blast in J&K’s Pulwama leaves CRPF personnel injured

  • Srinagar: A CRPF personnel was injured in a low-intensity improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Pulwama district of Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday, police said. Security forces also detected and defused another IED in the district later, a police official said.
  • The official said the IED blast occurred at Gongoo area of Pulwama in South Kashmir this morning as security forces were passing through the area.
